Party In Pink

September 24, 2011

The Party In Pink was a great success! Thank you to everyone who came out to support. It was nice to dance with old and new friends. Thank you to Roberta and all the guest instructors, Claudia, Marisa, Alejandra and Roxana. It was great to see the different flavors! Sabor!

Revised Schedule

September 22, 2011

I hope I don't have to write another eulogy any time soon! Here's my revised Zumba Class Schedule!

Rosy's Zumba Class Flyer

Classes, Licenses, Bears, Oh My!

September 11 , 2011

My Zumba Buddy, Amelia, got her first official class at UFC last Sunday, September 4. She did an outstanding job! You can see all the happy, smiling Zumba faces in this picture of her first class. She had a great turn out, too!

Amelia's UFC Class

I had my first class at Clayton Valley Dance Academy on Friday, September 9, 2011. Pam was pretty confident that we'd get some drop-ins based on all the communications she received regarding Zumba. In the end, only Me, Myself and I showed up and I missed Bryan's class in Antioch. We enjoyed ourselves anyway, acting goofy, running through all the routines and practicing a new one. We got a good 90 minute workout.

Here's I and Me.

Me and Myself

Here's Myself and I.

Me and Myself

And here's Me and Myself practicing Kumbia Ladies (choreography stolen, um, borrowed from Miguel Barajas). Love that one!

Then, to torture myself more, at the last minute I went and decided to get certified, I mean LICENSED, in yet another Zumba Class. We're not supposed to say 'certified'. I am now licensed to teach Zumba Toning, in addition to Zumba Basic and Zumba Gold! It was a lot of fun, but very different than regular Zumba. You know how in the Zumba classes there are people who are there 'to get a good workout'? And then there are the people who are there to 'dance' because it doesn't feel like exercise? I think Toning is for the ones who want to workout!

Abraham was a fun presenter! He killed us, LOL!

Zumba Toning

Token picture with Abraham. Remember my last one with him?

Zumba Toning

I was ever so slightly tempted to go to Abraham's Aqua Zumba Training class today but I came to my senses. Why spend yet another $250 on a fourth Zumba class license when I can't even get people to Basic Zumba?!

Speaking of classes no one comes to, Pam (ha, ha, I'm working for two Pam's on Thursday nights!) added another Zumba class on Thursday nights at 7:30. Here's my new class schedule. It will change in two weeks. Levity is going to drop all four Monday and Wednesday classes and try Tuesday and Thursday morning classes. Those will be at 9:00 a.m. Roberta will still have the Tuesday night class at 7 p.m. and the Saturday morning class at 9:00 a.m. I was really hesitant to agree to teach on Tuesday because that's the time of MY FAVORITE class...Mia's class at 24 in Antioch. I'll give it a try though. We're still trying to figure out if people are going to come to Zumba classes at Levity now that school is in.

Maybe I'm just the Mary Tyler Moore of Zumba.

Rosy's Classes

What else? I guess that's all my Zumba news for now!

Oh, Um, Heh, Heh.

August 21 , 2011

Can you see my cheeks turning rosy? Heh, heh. I just noticed I did talk about my new classes on my Natural High post. Possibly the unnatural high caused me to forget and/or to not put it in my Zumba section. We may never know.

Anudder, Nudder, Peanut Butter Cookie

August 21 , 2011

I don't know how I forgot to mention that I added two new classes to my repertoire! I guess between posting stuff on Facebook and Zumba Con Sabor Dot Com, I get confused. Speaking of confused, check Zumba Con Sabor for class location and cost!

I met with Pam of Clayton Valley Dance Academy last Thursday before my Sanctuary class, and we came up with times for two additional classes there. Hmmm. At least I think it was Pam. I can't tell her and her twin sister, who also teaches there, apart. Nat takes tap, jazz, ballet and hip hop there. I take the adult ballet class. She kept asking me if I was sure I never took ballet before. Nope, only 'dance' class I've ever taken is Zumba. Well, I did take an adult ballet class back in 1981 for a minute, but it was either that or take the temp job at IBM. I think I made the right choice.

Anyway, people have been asking her about Zumba classes. They may not stick and we may have all the wrong times, but we're going to give it a shot. Time suggestions welcome! First one will be on Friday, September 9 at 9:15 a.m. Then the following Monday at 8:30. Drop in for $10!!

My new class flyer:

Rosy's Zumba Class Flyer

Must I explain the post title? Well, I was going to call it New, New Class since I already had a New Class Post, but new, new made me think about nudder nudder. You know, the commercial about the Peanut Butter cookies? Oooo. Nat bought Mother's Frosted Animal Cookies for her party. I think I'll go forage.

Yes, I do have adult ADD. Why do you ask?

I Love Zumba!

August 18 , 2011

It's been a Zumba filled week and there's more to come! I've added events to my Zumba Con Sabor events page. Be sure to check it out, especially the Celebration! This was Ailton Andrade's Master Class at Sanctuary. TONS of fun! More pictures at my Phanfare site.

The following night was the DJ Francis Glow in the dark Party! Another fun, fun evening. Didn't take my camera (GASP, I know) to this event but there are a bunch of pictures here: http://acwphoto.zenfolio.com/djfrancis

Have I mentioned that I love Zumba? Speaking of Zumba, my classes at Levity are going on. Also, the Nerd Extraordinaire, moi, nerdified the Levity site, so you can actually see the schedule there now.

Oh yes, this was a couple of weeks ago at Alex, Guicho and Oscar's Juicy Dance Fitness Class. The one where 'the lady' was surprised to see me.

Juicy Dance Fitness

Took a couple of videos. Livin' La Vida Loca. Gonna have to steal this routine.

I think that's all the Zumbaness for now. I better get dressed to go teach my class tonight at Sanctuary!

New Zumba Class

August 11 , 2011

So yesterday while I was busy eating worms, I forgot to mention a bit of good news with a couple of ...um... interesting occurrences thrown in. Alex Higueros was doing the Thursday night class at Sanctuary Ministries but the Zumba Buddha (Muah, Alex!) got all big time and busy with his Juicy Dance Fitness and moved on and, I was offered that spot! I'm honored that they saw me in the same category as Mia and Alex and are trusting me to keep people happy in that class. Here's my new flyer:

Sanctuary Flyer

No one showing up last night at Levity was kind of adding injury to insult (I meant to say that backwards). I had lunch with Alex and some other Zumbini's last Thursday, the day I took over Alex' class. I joked with him that I would take off my shirt like he always does but that people would throw tomatoes at me because I didn't have his abs. Anyway, at the beginning of class, I announced that Alex was doing great but busy, and moving on, and that I was his replacement. I expected his groupies to be disappointed. I even expected some rotten tomatoes, but I did not expect what happened.

At the end of the class, Pam was thanking everyone for bearing with her during the changes, and right there in the middle of everyone, a woman said, "Well who wants to buy my punch card because I'm not coming back."

Ouch. Hellooooooo?! I'm standing right here! I can hear you!

Needless to say, Pam was flabbergasted and asked her to take her ticket scalping outside. Some of the ladies, also flabbergasted at the behavior, kindly told me they enjoyed my class.

At least I'm learning early on that I'll never be able to please everybody.

On a nicer note, the woman found me on zumba.com and sent me an email apologizing for her behavior. She was probably a little surprised to see me at Alex' Pacheco class on Saturday. People, you need to realize, our Zumba family knows and supports each other! You can't be dissing our family!

But speaking of pleasing people, I subbed Mia's Zumba Gold Class on Tuesday and will again tonight which by the way, is the reason Larkin McGowan is subbing for me at Sanctuary tonight. I had already committed to subbing for Mia before I got the Thursday night gig. I had a lot of fun teaching that class. Some ladies even asked if I taught other places! A former Ballroom Dancer told me she really enjoyed the class. I pulled out some Dean Martin, Elvis, and other classics. What was interesting is that in a Zumba Gold (many older adults) class, I was the only dinosaur who remembered the artists, title and movie of this song (which I used):

Or maybe I'm just in the minority of people who love sappy, boy wants girl, girl plays hard to get, girl falls for boy after all, movies.

Zumba, Zumba, Zumba

August 10 , 2011

So I'm back from my 5:30 Zumba Class only there was no class. No one showed up. I'm beginning to get a complex. No one wants to take a class from a Dime Store Mia. Sniff, sniff. When I first considered becoming an instructor, I was with Mia, Alda and Alex. I told them they were REQUIRED to tell me if I sucked and that I should never dance again if that's what they thought. But they encouraged me so I pursued. Were you guys fibbing? Yeah, I'm a little sad.

On the bright side, I'm so pleased that I brought Roberta Santos to Levity and that she is bringing in participants who love her! That makes me feel good! I also gave Levity a lead for a Zumba Toning Instructor and a lovely lady I met subbing Mia's Zumba Gold, who is a Ballroom Dancer. Maybe my fortay (how do you spell that, Frenchies?) is to network people?

If I don't end up getting a following, it'll be OK. I'll still attend all the classes of all my favorites Zumbalero's, Mia, Alex, Guicho, Marisa, Bryan, Amelia, Sheyla, Miguel...just to name a few!

Here's our current schedule. I'll keep showing up at the assigned times but we'll probably drop whichever ones no one shows up for in the next couple of weeks.

Levity Classes

In other Zumba news...I love Zumba and always will! I even had my friend pick me up a Dashboard Hula Doll that I was going to turn into a Zumba Girl. This is Sweet Leilani. When I learn how to sew, I'll tailor her outfit.

Sweet Leilani

Before I forget, let me not forget to mention all the EVENTS! I posted them on my Zumba Con Sabor site in Events. I'll post pictures of Ailton and Glow next week. Looking forward to it...should be a blast! There's Ailton, Glow, Relay for Life, Mt. Diablo Elementary Walk and a Breast Cancer Zumbathon at Levity! Take a peek!

No matter what, I always have fun! Thank you guys for coming to support on my Free Demo days! MUAH! Morning session of my fellow instructors, Bryan, Ale and Marisa.

And the lovely, Amelia, subbing for Mia at UFC.

I don't have any pictures of the classes I subbed for Mia. They were the Zumba Gold and I had a lot of fun and some people even asked me after if I taught any where else. That made me feel good! Subbing one more Gold class for Mia tomorrow. Maybe I'll try to get a picture.

Zumba love and goodnight!

Zumba at Levity

July 24, 2011

My new schedule for the next session of Zumba classes at Levity is posted. We are dropping the Friday morning class so I will only have four classes, two on Monday and two on Wednesday. I did not get the spot at Curves for Zumba in the Circuit. It's just as well. It didn't have the ambiance, energy, or something, that I'd hoped to find.

In addition, Roberta, who subbed for me while I was at Eagle Lake, has been offered classes on Tuesday and Thursday at 7:00 pm and Saturday mornings at 9:00 am. More choices for Zumba in Clayton! Woohoo!

In addition, in addition, to promote the Zumba classes, there will be four free 'demos', two by me and two by Roberta. See dates and times in the flyer below.

Hope to see you there!

Zumba in Susanville

July 15, 2011

Zumba Date, Friday, July 15, 2011. Was going through serious Zumba withdrawals. Have not been to Zumba since I taught my last class a week ago today. Will not swim, bike ride, run, walk for exercise. Must Zumba. Thank goodness for Zumba Dot Com and Lauren Morley! I found a Zumba class in Susanville. I could not make the 5:00 pm classes on Monday and Wednesday, but I did make the one this morning.

I didn't know what to expect but let me tell you, I was SO pleasantly surprised! Lauren used all the music from the ZIN CD's so I knew all of them. I am even stealing some of her routines! She was young, energetic, moved very well and queued very well. My sister-in-law, Lisa, came with me. It was her very first time and she enjoyed it! She is going to be looking for Zumba classes in her area when we get home!

If you are ever passing through Susanville, stop in to one of Lauren's classes! Erin, on the left, was also just passing through. She is going to be certified in Zumba in Incline Village later this month and will be teaching in Colorado when she gets back there. Lauren, middle, has 3 classes at the New Image Fitness Center at 1717 Main Street in Susanville. Thank you, Lauren!

Susanville Zumba

By the way, Roberta Santos subbed for me at Levity Fitness this week while I was at Eagle Lake. She has been offered some classes there! Yippeeeeee! They are not on the schedule yet but I believe there will be a class on Tuesday and Saturday. Check the Levity web site for schedule changes. The current session of classes is over. The next session will run from August 8 through September 17, 2011. I will update the schedule page on Zumba Con Sabor Dot Com.

And one more thing, don't forget the Zumba Events. Here's a new poster for the DJ Francis Glow Event on August 13.

July 6, 2011

GUESS WHAT??????? We now officially have drop-in action at my Levity classes! Woohooo!!! (Shut up, Vicki.) $10 to drop in. Check the schedule page on Zumba Con Sabor for times.

In other Zumba ramblings.

I was certified to teach Zumba on March 16, 2011. I taught my first class 1 month and 3 days later, subbing for Alex on May 19. I started teaching my classes at Levity on June 6, 2011, just a little over 2 1/2 months after getting certified. I subbed for Mia twice, on July 2 and July 5 and...I was well received! I was a little anxious to be following in Mia (or Alex') footsteps because they are so good. But in the end, no one threw tomatoes at me or walked out and I got great feedback! Here are a couple from Facebook.

Teaching

Teaching

So, as long as this body will let me, I'm going to keep teaching, and keep loving to teach Zumba! Just look at this guy! Luis subbed for Mia at Antioch. A little older but his love of teaching was obvious. Me, Luis and Ale. He reminded my of my Father-In-Law, looks wise. White hair, white mustache. I don't know if my F-I-L can dance, though. Plus, my F-I-L is not Peruvian. I asked Luis if he was Columbian because his accent sounded just like Beto's. LOL!

Antioch

I'll NEVER stop going to my favorite classes though! Me, Mia, Adrienne, Tammy and Amelia.

Me and Amelia showed up in the same outfit! LOL!

Events

July 1, 2011

There are so many Zumba events happening it's going to be impossible to go to all of them! I'll update the Events Page on Zumba Con Sabor so as not to duplicate efforts. So check there for for Zumba events in the area!

Ilima at Levity, where I teach 5 Zumba classes a week, has heard the people. They want drop in classes! I don't know what she's charging, I would imagine in the $10 range. Yippee!! Now put your drop-in where your mouth is, yes, I'm talking to you Deborah! XOXO!

I tried out at Curves yesterday to teach Zumba in the Circuit. The feedback from the owner was that she felt my music and me were a little slow and that I was not dancy enough. She said in all fairness, since she didn't participate, she would get feedback from the class. She will ask me to continue the class, or not, based on feedback. A little disappointing but, oh well. I guess my instincts were right when I decided to get certified in Zumba Gold. It doesn't seem like I'll be able to keep the pace all the clubs are looking for.

In funner Zumba news, I went to Club Sport to shoot photos for the instructors for the upcoming DJ Francis Glow event in Lafayette on August 13 (see Raquel's page for details). All the shots are on my Phanfare page if you care to see them all. Yuyi Morales and her son, Kelly, and his girlfriend, Luna, came along, too. It was a good thing because Kelly is actually a photographer (which I'm NOT) so he took over as impromptu photographer. Thanks, Kelly! Luna, me, Alex, Raquel, Midori, Oscar, Mia and Yuyi. Kelly took the picture.
