September 28, 2011

So just before the last downer, I really was laughing so hard that gin and tonic was spewing from my nose. It started with my posting (on Facebook, of course) an innocent picture of my kittenies.

These comments ensued (abbreviated version):

Shelly: um. goodwill called and they want that ruffly burgundy pillow back.

Me: ROFLMAO. But wait, there's more.

Then I posted this:

And was dying laughing over the comments:

Shelly: why are you hurting people. and is there still a doobie in that 'pocket?'

Me: OK, don't laugh too much and definitely don't let Alison see this! When we moved here, the room which is my office, was called the Teen Room in the model. So I decided I was going to make it the Jean Room. Shit happens to your brain when you have a 1 and 2 year old running around. The pillow with the rose is an actual chair cover I made and had in my 1970 apartment with a patch I had on my bell bottoms. Yes, I made the pillows, reminiscent of my old BRICK (not patchwork) jeans.

Shelley: OMG again....Are you cleaning out your drawers??!!

Shelly: sweet lord don't say drawers, she'll pull out her thong collection. that girl keeps everything.

And a bunch of other comments which prompted me to go find this:

Me: I do have this rust colored leather jacket I got from Casual Corner in 1976.

And then I found these:

Me: I have these Guess jeans circa 1991 that I can't show you the front of because they don't zip.

Me: They have fancy zippers on the side.

Shelly: have you no shame? these are practically jeggings. and, I'm jealous.

Me: You wouldn't be jealous if you saw the lying on the floor in the closet trying to get out of them.

Shelly: around here, we call that "morning."

This was hysterically funny to me! Maybe I should lay off the gin and tonics, eh?

Domenique, nique, nique, blah blah French, blah blah foo foo, a shawn taw...I can't stop listening to it now.

A Different Kind of Penny

September 28, 2011

You know how I'm always finding my Pennies from Heaven? This is kind of a reach, but still. I was reading the Obits (Yes, weird, I know. A long time habit of mine.), when I glanced upon this:

Penny Obit

I didn't know Mr. Doherty, RIP, but my brother, Nene (Ignacio), was born on December 1, 1961. He didn't have a middle name but my mother put his confirmation name (initial) on his grave stone. It was Dominick. Which reminds me, she gave him that name because she loved the Nun movie with that kid Dominick in it and the song...Domenique, Nique, Nique, la, la, la, la, la, la,, la, la, la, la, la. Know which one I'm talking about?

Wow. Google and the internet are the best things ever, eh? The Singing Nun. That was the movie. And I even found the song. And it made me cry. My mom used to sing it all the time. And she didn't speak French. LOL!

The Singing Nun. Now I'll have to go watch it again. When I'm ready to cry a bunch more.

RIP R. Z. Calf

September 22, 2011

Dearly beloved, we are gathered here to mourn the passing of our friend, R. Z. Calf.

RZ's life was a short, but fulfilling one. In a few short months, we witnessed how her health had deteriorated, getting weaker with each passing week. But her spirit was always there. She would always say that she would be with us for as long as it took to get stronger. She was still teaching up to the last Free Demo today. But alas, the one lone, last attempt at keeping her going, was not enough. There was just nothing more that could be done. Her last day was made as comfortable as possible. We are grateful that you are no longer suffering and in pain. You were so close and you will be greatly missed.

Join me now, in a moving rendition of Amazing Grace.

Rest in Peace, R. Z. Calf, aka, Rosy's Zumba Classes At Levity Fitness.

Postpone for Pink

September 14, 2011

It looks like I may have to rethink this deliverance from Facebook. If I'm deleted, I think the Party in Pink is deleted, yes? Drat. The Party in Pink is on! Saturday, September 24th from 9 to 11. Also remember that the Oktoberfest (in September -- AGAIN) is in downtown Clayton on the 23rd, 24th and 25th. The streets of Clayton will be blocked off. Best thing to do is park at Mt. Diablo Elementary School and walk down the hill to Levity. From Clayton Road, make a right on Mitchell Canyon, left on Pine Hollow, left on Mt. Zion, right into the school parking lot. Check the Events page on Zumba Con Sabor for details!

Party in Pink

September 14, 2011

If you love follow me, you'll have noticed that I'm missing. From Facebook, that is. Last night was the last straw. I took the night off from Zumba to make Nat a birthday dinner. She never declared what she wanted but I know she loves crab. So I searched high and low and finally found some. I baked her a birthday cake. I picked up a card and some lovely flowers that reminded me of her bright little self. I bought her a coconut because when I saw it I remembered that she always asks me to buy her one and I always say no. We haven't gotten her an actual gift yet. What she really wants for her birthday are piercings in places...well...I just can't go there. Can you say "squeamish'?

She seemed glum since I picked her up from school. I kept trying to find out why. She kept insisting nothing was wrong. And as the day wore on, she got glummer and glummer. I asked if she had expected something different for her birthday. Maybe a huge surprise party with all her friends? She finally admitted to my Honey Bunch that she maybe did expect something a little different but she didn't specify. I guess she's a lot more like me than I realized. I think I do the same thing. I say I don't want a fuss and then there isn't one, and then I get sad when friends don't remember. Luckily, I have my Honey Bunch and my family!

She wouldn't even let me take a picture with her cake. This is all I got.

14th Birthday

14th Birthday

Having her be so sad on her birthday made me feel like the worst mother ever. I got to wondering if I made all my kids' birthdays as miserable as I made Nat's. I get on Facebook to see if I can tell if anything bad happened. I look to see if there is anything going on with my other kids. Alas, nothing. Probably because they have me blocked from their activity. I decide I'm a pretty pitiful mother if I have to check Facebook to have a relationship with my kids. Big sigh....

So friends, I think it's time for me to hang up my virtual life on Facebook and get a real life. Yes. With all the hours I'm going to save being off of Facebook, I'm going to go to my shed and start painting again. I'm going to talk to my kids in real life (if I can get them off of their devices!). I'm going to go out there and advertise my Zumba classes and maybe finally get some bodies in there. I'm going to go through these piles of paper sitting on my floor. I'm going to clean out the junk drawers. I'm going to call friends to go to lunch, the theater and the movies like we used to. I'm going to...I'm going to...I'm going to...OH CRAP. I'm going to get my dramatic self off this little soap box and go pick up the high school kids. It's early release Wednesday. My Honey Bunch called it. He knew I would forget!

September, Still

September 11, 2011

September. Nic plays the Mutiny, Lexi's birthday, Chacho's birthday, back to school, new routines, Shockley's anniversary, 9-11, purchase Nutcracker tickets, Fall. Busy month and it's only the 11th!! Even though the kids started school in August, I still always think of September as the Back to School month. Here's the first day of school pictures (on August 30.) They're not standing together because Nic is doing Independent Study this year and his meeting wasn't until 12:30 p.m.

First Day of School

So he finally got up.

First Day of School

Here they were 10 years ago. Nic in Kindergarten, Nat in preschool. I posted a bunch more pics on my Phanfare site of school through the years.

First day of school.

After school, Nic went down to the high school. I guess he's not as much of a loner as he claims. By the way, I dropped him off at the middle school because he needed to sell some tickets to his show, to some of their younger fans. Dear Mrs. DVMS Principal, it was just Nic selling tickets, not some 35 year old man being inappropriate or selling drugs or anything. Just had to get that out there in case some 6th graders mom's were freaking out. Those 6th graders are SO little!

First Day of School

The carpool. Kevin, Nat and Shane. Haylee was coming, too. Lauren had Volley Ball practice. Nat declared that she LOVED high school, LOVED all her teachers had a GREAT first day! Have you met my children, Night and Day?

First Day of School

Nic and his band, Darkness Pervades, got a gig at The Mutiny in Antioch on Friday, the 2nd of September. I took video of their whole set but he wouldn't let me post it because he didn't think they did that good of a job. I thought they did great! Of course, I know nothing about that genre. It's funny, I like all kinds of music. iTunes never knows what to recommend for me...I confuse them. I like everything. Rock, salsa, reggae, soul, country, German Polkas, classical, zydeco, pop, big band, rap, etc., etc., etc. Everything. Everything, that is, except death metal. So that's what my kids (#3 and #4 anyway) decide to like. Ick.

Anyway, I was really proud of them! I posted a bunch more pictures on my Phanfare site.

The Mutiny

Hunter, Nic and their roadie, my little Honey Bunch.

The Mutiny

Ten years ago today, Motsy was living in Brooklyn and took these pictures from his place. I had just dropped Nic off at Kindergarten. My Honey Bunch called me to tell me to listen to the news, something BIG was happening. I was wandering around in disbelief, kind of in a daze. So much so that when I was paying for my purchases, I hadn't realized that Nat had bought a rubber chicken. I was trying to call Motsy and I couldn't get through to him. I was sick with worry. Then one of his friends called me and told me he had talked to him and that he was OK. I cried with relief from happiness and then I cried for all those that were not so lucky.

Happy September!

September 1, 2011

So now that the kids are back in school, sort of, I should have more time to make this site fancy shmancy. We'll see how that goes. Oh and what I mean by 'sort of' is that Nic is doing Independent Study. He's at home. All. The. Time.

I found these two Facebook posts from a year ago. Guess he and I will be switching our thoughts on Mondays and there will be no more silly carpool conversations.

Funny conversation with my 14 year old November 15, 2010

Him: I hate Monday's.

Me: I don't. I love Mondays. You kids go to school, Deez goes to work and I get the house to myself.

Him: Yeah, you don't have to get up and go to a job or school.

Me: Excuse me? I work.

Him: You're a stay at home mom!

Me: Well, I work. I cook (I'm chopping stuff to put in the crock pot at the moment).

Him: No you don't. You only cook when Deez is home!

Me: Well, I do laundry.

Him: No you don't. I do my own laundry!

Me: Well, I clean.

Him: No you don't. You have a cleaning lady!

Me: Well, I shop and keep food in the house.

Him: Well, I'll give you that, sort of.

LOL! Well, at least I've taught him to be self sufficient.

Another Nic Conversation, Tuesday, November 16, 2010

After dropping Kevin (carpool) off and driving down by Seeno's hill. Those of you who don't know, Seeno has that giant house on the hill with all the llamas, ponies, emus, etc.

Anyway, Nic and I are in the car headed home.

Me: I wonder what happened to Chad Wood?

Him: I don't know. He's definitely not at Clayton Valley or I would know.

Me: Hmmm. Maybe they moved to Hollywood. (I crack me up. Chad's mother's name is Holly. Holly Wood. Seriously.)

Him: No, I don't think so.

Me: Aren't you going to ask me what made me think of Chad Wood?

Him: I don't really care. (I really should have named him Pierre. It would rhyme with everything he says.)

Me: Come on! Ask me.

Him: Fine. What made you think of Chad Wood.

Me: The Emu.

Me: Because I remembered one time I was on a walk and he was throwing rocks at the emus.

Him: You're weird.

The end.

More Pennies

September 1, 2011

A couple of weeks ago, I walked into Levity to teach Zumba. I was glum because only one or two people have been coming to my classes. It's FREE for the first time and no one comes. So I was eating worms, feeling sorry for myself. I didn't even bring in my music. I was going to ask that the classes just be canceled and put out of their misery.

I walked into the lobby and saw a penny. I picked it up and say my little ditty, "See a penny pick it up and all the day you'll have good luck." Then I look for the year to see who is reaching out to me.

1986 Penny

It's a 1986. My brother, Baby, died in 1986.

Then, three angels walked in for my class. Thank you, Baby!

Speaking of Angels, yesterday would have been P-Rez's (Baby #1 and 2's Baby Daddy) 55th Birthday. Happy Birthday, P-Rez! You are greatly missed.
