Shockley Eyes

August 12, 2014

At our visit with my lovely sister-in-law, Lori, in Iowa, I was amazed at many things -- lightning bugs, green, Hy-Vee (the grocery store), the niceness of everyone, green, the hugeness of everyone, the controlled chaos of a family of 2 parents, 8 kids, 3 dogs and three cats, and so one. But another thing that really intrigued me was the beautiful and different color of my nieces and nephews eyes.

Here's number 1, Alex. Beautiful blue.

Shockley Alex

Number 2 is Andy. Greenish, hazel beautiful. Interesting story about this picture. Number 4, Ben, said I would never get Andy to agree to a picture. I bet him a million dollars I could get a picture. I showed him the picture and incredulous, he told me he was glad he didn't take my bet.

Shockley Andy

Number 3, the very stylish, Henry. Another awesome shade of hazel.

Number 4 is Lizzie. Beautiful girl with a heart of gold, who takes care of everyone. More brown hazel.

Number 5 is Ben, delightful little guy, who was mostly buried in a Harry Potter book. Ben's are blue.

Then we have the charismatic Catie, number 6, with her big, brown hazels.

Ahhhh...number 7. Timmy, or as I like to call him, Mini Mike (looks most like my Little Honey Bunch when he was little). Cornflower blue.

Shockley Timmy

And last but not least, number 8, my birthday twin, Thomas. Hazel browns.

There you have it. More to come...selfies involved!. I am easily amused, as you know. Except I'm leaving for the Zumba convention in the morning so I won't get to it until next week. There is NO down time! I hope to get a hundred billion steps in the next few days. Well, except for the sitting on the airplane for 6 hours part.

Green Acres

August 2, 2014

My lovely In-Laws (mother, sister, sister and niece) decided to take a trip out to Iowa to visit my other sister-in-law, Lori, in Cedar Falls, Iowa. I wasn't going to go but decided at the last minute to go. It was almost the same group (minus Nic and Nat) who went together back in May of 2001 (click here for ancient blog page link).

The first thing I noticed as we approached Iowa from the plane was, everything is SO GREEN!

The morning walk path. GREEN.

The dog park. GREEN. And there are faux hydrants throughout. Genius!

The view looking out from the front of the house. Miles and miles of GREEN.

The front lawn. A couple of acres of GREEN.

Looking out the back of the house. Yup. Miles and miles of GREEN. There's an electric fence that keeps the dogs in and you can actually tell where the property line is by the change in the grass.

The people in the house back there were mowing their lawn on a ride on mower. I kid you not, they were out there for at least four hours! They locals can't understand our surprise/obsession with the massive amount of green grass. And guess what? They don't even have sprinklers. That's all natural from rain! They think I'm weird, too, for being so excited about the fireflies. "You don't have those in California?" No, siree, Bob. And I'm planning on capturing some in a jar before this trip is over. I think.

This blogger introduced me to the above blogger and to the blogging bug in general. Love her!

This is my nieces blog. She's cute: http://temptationofliving.tumblr.com/rosystraka.com needs a facelift and makeover. I'll be working on that, too.

They need you.
