Nene and Friends

May 12, 2018

Yesterday marked the 39th anniversary of my brother, Nene's, death. It's amazing how after all this time, the hole in your heart is still there. I was panicking, though, because I think I'm starting to forget. I do remember him being kind and funny and very resourceful. I remember he used to sing 'I'm in the mood for love, simply because you're near me...' I remember watching Clint Eastwood movies with him in the hospital room on Thursday night, March 10. Me and Paul Prado (RIP), one of my St. Joseph's buddies, were watching Spaghetti Westerns with him.

I remember Paul Perez being great during that first month of our son's life. I spent much time at the hospital and he took care of our 3 year old and 1 month old.

After being at Children's Hospital for a month, 100 pints of blood in transfusions, seven open heart surgeries, that Thursday night, it seemed like Nene was taking a turn for the better. I went home very optomistic. I even stopped in front of St. Joseph's church and prayed to God. That was probably the last time I did that.

Thursday night would be the last time I saw him alive. Going in for the eighth surgery on Friday, May 11, his body gave out.

He would have been 57 this December. He was only 17 when he died. I always wonder what could have been. I dream of how things would be so different today if he were still alive.

Anyway, I did make it to the Cemetery. It's funny, there are more dog walkers, lunchers, baby walkers than ever. I like it.

The flowers Boobie took yesterday are mostly still there (deer).

Spectacular day.

Rest in peace, Brother.

Oh, a feather! Hi to you too, Mom!

On another sad note, our sweet neighbors and friends are moving to Virginia. They came into our lives ten years ago. We're going to miss them dearly. Mike, Emma and Laura Villano, my Little Honey Bunch, Pat, Stacey and Shane Russell and me. Shane came home from SLO but didn't tell Stacey. She was very surprised and very happy!

This was Laura telling the tale of when she first met my Little Honey Bunch. She thought he was Captain Gorton, with his yellow rain gear. Their chimney blew off the house (YUP, and it was the second time it happened!) and Joe Fitz was helping them out, called my Little Honey Bunch to bring his big ladder...and the rest is history.

Nic made an appearance and greeted his old friend, Shane. They've known each other since Kindergarten. That's Grant, Shane and Nic in 1st Grade.

Villano's Dinner

I believe this is 5th Grade. I figured it would be the last time Nic would be taller than Shane.

And it was.

Time to get ready for Music in the Park. It'll be our last Clayton outing with the Villano's. Sniff, sniff.

This is my nieces blog. She's cute: needs a facelift and makeover. I'll be working on that, too.

They need you.
