Faith in Humanity

October 31, 2018

As you may know, I don't like Halloween. I detest it. I used to like it when the kids were little and we used to hang out in the Russell's driveway, by the fire, with an alcoholic beverage. Since the kids are grown, no one Nic and my Little Honey Bunch never want to hand out candy. I get stuck with the duty. So I went on strike and we quit handing out candy. We'd turn off all the lights and put a screen in the front window. We don't have window choice. That's the one day I wish we did have them. A lot of times, they STILL rang the bell even though the house was dark.

Anyway, my Little Honey Bunch suggested we get candy, put it out in a bowl and let the kids help themselves. I agreed. Plus, I had a reason to buy candy and steal a few favorite pieces for myself. ANYWAY, Here's what I did. Tee-hee-hee.

Halloween 2018

I was watching the porch from the app on my phone in the comfort of my sofa, whilst watching Real Housewives. I put the candy out at 5:00 and the first person to get candy was at 6:20. It was only Nic, though. He took me up on my offer to pilfer some for himself.

Trick or Treat

A group of kids finally came at 6:30, then the next group of kids didn't come until 6:50. Maybe people remembered our house as the house that didn't give candy? Weird.

Through the evening I kept glancing at the live feed. Most kids took one handful. One kid took three handfuls. Guess he didn't read the 'don't be naughty' part on my sign. I could tell the basket was empty, close to 8:00. Kids would pick it up, look in it and kind of look around.

Then my mind got blown away, in a very good way. A kid looked in the basket, stood and thought a moment, then took some of his/her candy from his/her bag and put it in the basket. I guess the part of my sign that read 'save some for others', got to this thoughtful, generous human being. It actually brought a tear to my eye and my faith in humanity was restored. There are still some decent, caring people out there. Sniff, sniff.

60th Birthday Bash

October 27, 2018

A while back I decided I wanted to do something for my 60th Birthday. I didn't want to break the bank since my Little Honey Bunch has not found employment yet and my Zumba dollars usually get fed back into Zumba clothes or the Zumba Cruise or the Zumba Convention. Actually, I'm pretty sure I'm in the red on that.

I invited 100 people. 75 replied yes. Then my Little Honey Bunch started freaking out. He didn't think we could fit that many people. I'm like, "Relax, Filmore. It'll be fine!" He calmed his uneasiness by renting tables and chairs to sit 50 people. He likes to have a place to sit when he eats so he wants everyone to have a place. With the kitchen table, the dining room table and our outdoor table, that's another 22 seats. I told the caterer 75. There was plenty of seats and food for everyone! I hope.

I hope you all had as much fun as I did. AND THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR SHARING THIS MILESTONE WITH ME! This was the first time I've ever had an actual birthday party. When I was a kid, we didn't have money for that sort of thing and as a grown up, I just shied away from large gatherings. I think. Well, dementia. If anyone remembers any past parties I had, please refresh my memory.

There were beautiful friends from as far back as grade school (St. Joseph's), Zumba, IBM, Walnut Country Preschool, Mt. Diablo Elementary and Clayton folks, sweet neighbor, 2 of my sisters and a niece, all 4 of my kids, Mike's sister (& hubby) and mom, Mike's cousin Larry and his bride Joan (who came from San Diego!), Mike's cousin Scott and his bride Fran. Eight Zumba Instructors showed up (including TOBY!) so you KNOW there was dancing. MIKE STRAKA even danced (he was a little toasted)! Boy, did my bare hippie feet hurt after.

The theme was '60's, which is why I bought the army jacket. I dressed the way we did back then. Dad's way too big white undershirt, pants and an army jacket. This looks like a SnapChat filter but it's not. Just me.

The photo in the header is from the day. So much fun. I posted a bunch of pictures on Facebook.

October 23, 2018

Today is my 60th birthday. I woke up and smiled. You see, my mother died when she was fifty-nine. Somehow I had it in the back of my head that maybe I would also die at fifty-nine. You can imagine the big sigh of relief I let out when I woke to sixty. All right, let's rock these sixties!

It's ma birfday, it's ma birfday! By the way, if you want your skin to look this good at 60, you gotta get yourself some Rodan + Fields! See my R + F Blog. Call me!

I went to the Army Surplus store the day after my birthday and my child met me and bought me lunch! By the way, it's the same Army Surplus store (new location) where me and my friends used to go fifty years ago to buy army jackets. I was doing the same thing, fifty years later.

Beginning of October

October, 2018

So the rest, or I should say the first part, of October went something like this. My Little Honey Bunch and I went to Clayton's Oktoberfest. I ate a corn dog. Later that evening, I got sick and threw up. Yuk. Don't eat corn dogs at fairs.

Oktoberfest 2018

My Little Honey Bunch went jeeping with the boys, Pat, Steve, Tom, LHB and Kato.

Jeeping 2018

Alda, Zelia and I stayed at Mia's and then went to the Half Moon Bay Pumpkin Festival on Sunday since my Little Honey Bunch was jeeping and Osh was on 9er duty. Good times! I didn't take a single picture at the Pumpkin Festival. SMH.

Pumpkin Festival

Our friends, John and Carolyn, had some friends over for a Shrimp Boil. O. M. G. SO FREAKING GOOD. And hot. So spicy hot that you could feel your lips burning. You eyes would water when you walked by the pot!

Shrimp Boil

John happens to be the supplier for Moresi's Chop House, where we are for most of our date nights. Ed, the owner, joined us for dinner as well and we got to spend time with him on our side of the table for once.

Shrimp Boil

Good food, good friends!

We did go to Moresi's on the 26th for my birthday. (Gah...It looks like I should never eat ever again.)

Date Night

Nat and Alex joined us for dinner. Our friends band, Plan B, was playing at the Clayton Club. Nat's first time as she just turned 21 last month. Epic! Laila (Nat's friend) and Chris joined us there, too. It's kind of weird being in a bar with kids you've known since they were in Kindergarten. LOL

Clayton Club

And that brings us to the 60th Birthday Bash.
