October 2020

October

Looks like I'm getting September and October done in mid November. 15th to be exact. But I digress...back to October.

Birthday month is a lot different during quarantine. My Little Honey Bunch continued his work on the new shed. We went to Chico on October 10 to help Natalie move, yet again! She moved to a larger unit in the same complex. It took us a couple of trips with Big Truck and the little black trailer. Josh had a truck, too. (Natalie's Josh as opposed to Lina's Josh.) The Russells moved from their house in Clayton and we visited them in their new house on October 17, on the other side of Kirker. It's a rental until they figure out what they're doing.

On my actual birthday, I taught my regular Zumba class at 1:30. Before class, I got a delivery of flowers from the folks in my class! Natalie joined my class - that was a treat! Then during class, Zelia showed up with a bunch of balloons and did two songs with me. Then, I got a delivery of beautiful cupcakes from Motsy! I felt like I was a game show host and all these surprises kept popping up. The day was finished off with my favorite meal of steaks, potatoes, veggies and bread.

We had the gang (minus Mitz - helping her mom move) over on the 24th. What a feast! Mac n Cheese, Chili, fabulous corn bread, salad...yum!

I decided to put up a Dia de Los Muertos altar since I don't do Halloween. I realized I didn't have a serape and Boobie told me I could probably find one at Corazon del Pueblo, a store out in East Oakland on E. 14th (fine, International Blvd.). I could have spend hours in there!

Corazon del Pueblo

As it turns out, the store is owned by my childhood friend, Marta's, mother, Josephine Lopez. She happened to call the store while we were there. Jose, told her we knew her and I ended up chatting with her, reminiscing about the house on California Street and the house above the tunnel. Remembering when Marta, Anthony and Cynthia Barocio, Tony Flores, Juan and Pito Escovedo (yes, Shelia E's brothers) had a band called Mango. Wait...I have a picture! From 1973. I dig the old time metadata.

Before we headed home, Boobie and I stopped at the Taco Trucks in the Good Will parking lot. I need to visit East Oakland more often! These were fire! Uno de lengua (tongue) y uno de carnitas (pork).

Lina stopped by one evening to drop off the birthday present she made me. An absolutely beautiful hand made vase! Breathtaking!

Also, I got my altar up. Nic really liked this tradition. A couple of his friends were in it, Matt and Andrew. I posted a pic in my 365 and also a YouTube Video from my 365.

By the end of October, my Little Honey Bunch had lights in the shed. More updates to come in my November post which I may actually get done in November!

This is my nieces blog. She's cute: http://temptationofliving.tumblr.com/rosystraka.com needs a facelift and makeover. I'll be working on that, too.
