Zumba Convention 2017 #ZINCON2017

July 31, 2017

There's been a lot of Zumba fun since I last posted in April but of course, I haven't gotten around to posting it. I'll get around to it one of these days...maybe even today since I'm on a plane for another couple of hours.

However, since the Zumba Convention is still fresh in my mind, I'll post about that today! As always, it was super fabulously fun. Except for maybe Mario Lopez as the announcer for the Opening Session. I mean, he really didn't have any connection to Zumba except that he took a Strong by Zumba Class. Didn't we all? Plus, they surprised a group of kids, who performed, with ticket to, as Mario Lopez said, "Disneyland!" Mario, we're in Florida. It's Disneyworld.

Anyway, inspirational as always. I had a new roomie this year. Dolores Gianni got to go to her first convention. A sweet, considerate, lovely roommate! My other homies (except Tammy!) attended as well. California represented well!

When we arrived, we didn't see Beto, but we did see AP (Alberto Perlman, CEO). Always gracious, he took and picture with me and Dolores. He also promised to dance at the Fitness Concert. Seventeen years with Zumba and he can't dance. It was a great surprise when he actually DID dance at the opening ceremony. Everyone in the Zumba world knows that that's a big deal!

This was also the earliest I've ever gone. Last year, we took a Tuesday night red eye but I couldn't sleep on the plane and was grumpy all day Wednesday. So we got in at a decent time on Tuesday night. Dolores and I went to the B-Line for dinner. I told her we had to get it in because Zelia was going to refuse to go there after one time. LOL

Dolores turned in early but Emma and Annette were ready to party so I joined them for a beverage or ?, on Tuesday night. I think I went to bed about 3:00 am.

Dolores and I registered on Wednesday morning, had Denny's for breakfast (saving some buck) and hung out at the pool. Of course we ran into lovely California girls!

So we went to The Bar on Wednesday night. We had a blast. I met a bunch of new friends I may or may not have remembered the next day. There was one girl who said to me, "Hey Rosy with the hair! I met you two years ago here."

So I told her I didn't remember but that she was my best friend NOW and that I would remember her forever.

Then in the morning I sent this message to the group. By the way, the thread we had going during convention was a comedy show in itself.

Anyway, Zelia ran into her and took a picture of her badge. LOL. TINA. Tina Guzman. My Best Friend.

So, let's see. We're only at Wednesday night. Went to bed about 3:30. Dolores was amazed that I got myself in, showered, make-up off AND woke up in plenty of time to get to the Opening Session!

I didn't get any photos of the opening session because my phone had a heart attack. I revived it later. After the Opening Ceremony, Sessions were under way. I must say, I LOVED every session I had. Every presenter, every ZES (Zumba Education Specialist), was exceptional! I was thoroughly blown away by all the talented ZESs! I didn't take a picture with any of them except the last one, Hermann.

What a cutie with a fatty magusta! I need to remember to open my eyes. We couldn't decide if he's gay or not. Not that there's anything wrong with that. Just curious. Hey Bryan, your gaydar please?

After our last sessions on Thursday, we went to dinner at the Bahama Mama or something like that, danced with a bunch of people, came back to the bar, danced some more. I think I went to bed around 3:00 am.

We ran into Angel Colon, the Zumba instructor who was injured (badly) but survived the attack on the Pulse Night Club last year. He's still recuperating but at least he's walking again albeit with a cane. Sometimes he still has to use a motorized cart. What an inspiration!

The Fitness Concert with Daddy Yankee and a bunch of other people I'm not familiar with was great, until Daddy Yankee came on and everyone rushed the stage. I stayed out of the fracas and watched from afar.

We went to the bar and then back to the room and partied until 3:00 am or so.

The Theme Party did not disappoint! The costumes were AMAZING and CREATIVE as always! I think this guy is wearing the same outfit Priscilla wore.

Some guy saw me take this picture and said, "Are you taking a picture of his butt?" Grinning, I said, "No. His wings."

These guys should have won the contest. Maybe they didn't enter? They are golden statues with each of the Zumba formats. Aqua, Toning, Gold, Zumbini and Strong. The detail of their costumes is amazing!

These were the winners. Amazing! I wonder how they went to the bathroom?

After the Theme Party we went to the Bar. Again. I think I went to bed at 4:00 am. This is a little taste at the bar. Mae, Jazz, Zelia, Maria, Coco, Rosy, Tracy, Mia....

Sepi, Cynthia, Zelia and Dolores left on Sunday night. Mia had to move to my room so we had drinks with Annette and Emma, dinner (at 1:00 am) with Jazz, Cheryl, Tulsi and Coco. I think we made it up to the room about 2:30 then gabbed for another who knows how long. Just like a sleep over! LOL

And that's a wrap! Until next year! Except, great news, I signed up for the Zumba Cruise in April! It's open to anyone. Why don't you come? If you use my ID, you can get $25 ship credit! 123818. You can register here:

I'm also uploading a bunch more pictures to Dropbox if you're interested in looking at the crazy.

I am thoroughly exhausted. 78 miles in steps during Convention. When I get home on Monday, I'm going to sleep for hours!

Good night!

End of an era. Again.

April 23, 2017

So, back in 2008, I took my very first Zumba class at Center Concord. As the story goes, my Little Honey Bunch saw an ad for Zumba in a Shape Magazine. He told me I should try it. He thought I would really like it. I poo-pooed the idea...for a couple of years! Finally, I decided to try it. I signed up and, fell in love and the rest is history!

Last Thursday, I crashed Mia's LAST class at the place where it all started. In the very same room that I took my first class with her, I attended her very last class there. For those who don't know, she and Omar moved to Half Moon Bay so she has given up all her classes in the East Bay.

The group was very sad and sentimental.

End of an Era - Mia, Center Concord

I remember back on August 28 of 2012, we ended another era. Mia taught her last class at 24 Antioch. (I think I look better now! Thank you Zumba and Rodan + Fields.)

24 Hour Fitness Antioch 2012

Some of the same people are still attending the Zumba classes at Antioch!

24 Hour Fitness Antioch, August 28, 2012

Mia is teaching her last Aqua class tomorrow, Monday, April 24. Before that, she will join me for the first half hour of my class! Join us! It'll be just like old times. 24 Hour Fitness Super Sport, 2800 N. Main Street, Walnut Creek, CA.

New Class Alert!

January 1, 2017

24 Hour Fitness in Antioch has moved to its new location and had its Grand Opening. I have never taught a class there but I've always attended the classes there. They offered auditions for the new location but I didn't want to teach Basic Zumba. However, when they sent out the tentative new class schedule, they were offering Zumba Gold classes! So I applied for and got both Zumba Gold classes. They are on Tuesday and Thursday at 12:00. I've already done 2 Thursdays. The first Tuesday class is January 3 as I was tied up with teaching Mia's Zumba Gold class at the Senior Center in Concord.

The new Antioch location has 3 times as many classes as the old location. (Click here for the schedule.) I recommend STRONG by Zumba, but be aware that it is NOT a Zumba class. It's an HIIT (High Intensity Interval Training). There are burpees and plank jacks involved. It's great if you want to kick up your workout!

Zumba Gold

I am excited about teaching this class and hoping to grow it as much as my Walnut Creek (or more!) class grew!
